The Aegean 600 race has seen its first finishers arriving under strong winds, despite challenges in the latter part of the course. Claudio Demartis’s Reichel/Pugh 90, PROSECCO DOC SHOCKWAVE 3 (ITA), claimed the title of First to Finish with an elapsed time of 2 days, 0 hours, 8 minutes, and 27 seconds, just three hours shy of the record set in 2023 by the Farr 100 LEOPARD 3 (MON). Hot on their heels, George Procopiou’s Volvo 70 AIOLOS (GRE) crossed the finish line only two minutes later after an intense battle.
Following these leaders, Antoine Magre’s Mach 50 PALANAD 4 (FRA) and Frederic Puzin’s Carkeek 54 DAGUET 5 (FRA) finished two hours later after a close contest, with PALANAD 4 managing to pass DAGUET 5 near Mykonos.
Andrea Micalli, tactician on SHOCKWAVE, expressed his excitement about the experience, recalling a thrilling gust of 30-35 knots during the first night. Helmsman Lorenzo Bressani praised the race’s unique downwind portion, highlighting their record-breaking speed of over 30 knots. Procopiou noted the race’s continuous improvement in organisation and participation, along with the challenging conditions that kept the crew soaked from start to finish.
As more boats are expected to finish throughout the night and into the following day, the current standings in IRC scoring see PALANAD 4 in the lead, followed by DAGUET 5 and AIOLOS in third. In ORC scoring, Paval Stole’s JPK 10.30 MARY S (CZE) remains the overall leader, with MOWGLI of PORTSMOUTH (ESP) and XIPHOS (GRE) in second and third, respectively.
