Youngblood claims back-to-back season titles with M32 North American Championship victory

YoungBlood closed out the summer with victory at the 2026 M32 North American Championship in Newport, holding off defending champions Tuuci after 14 races to claim the Hayden Goodrick Trophy.

The championship came down to the final beat of the last race on the final day. YoungBlood entered Sunday with an eight-point advantage, but Tuuci came charging back, winning the day with a 1-3-6-3-1 scoreline and cutting the final margin to just three points.

The M32 North American Championship for the Hayden Goodrick Cup saw YoungBlood, helmed by Miles Julien, finish with 46 points, while Tuuci, led by Cy Thompson, followed closely behind with 49 points. Midtown Racing, skippered by Larry Phillips, took third place with 61 points.

Alongside tactician Carlos Robles and team members Bernardo Freitas, Leonard Takahashi, and Moritz Spitzauer, Julien has steadily progressed from being a newcomer to a formidable competitor in the fleet. Much of this success stems from maintaining a consistent crew over several seasons, fostering trust and communication.

The significance of the North American title resonates deeply within the M32 community, as it is dedicated to the late Hayden Goodrick, a cherished sailor. “Hayden was a beloved sailor and friend of the M32 class and many other sailors around the world,” said Dave Doucett. “It is a great honour to host the North American Championship with his legacy on the trophy, which is a gigantic Dark ’n Stormy. Friends of Hayden would know he would have appreciated that.”

The regatta marked the final event of the three-part Newport Summer Series, with YoungBlood and Tuuci finishing the season tied on 40 points. YoungBlood claimed the series title on a tiebreak, resulting in a clean sweep of both M32 seasonal championships in 2026.

The YoungBloods’ titles now include the M32 Winter Series, Newport Summer Series, and North American Championship.

As the regular season concludes, the focus shifts to the upcoming M32 World Championship in Newport, where YoungBlood arrives with considerable momentum. With a competitive field including Tuuci, Pursuit, and Midtown, the stage is set for an exciting postseason.
