Foiling Week 2026, nine days in the foiling galaxy, was held in Malcesine, Italy, from July 5th to July 13th. The event featured racing, the Foiling Sport Congress, clinics, trials, public experiences, and dedicated board disciplines. This edition also announced the new Foiling & Sailing Media Meeting set for October 5th during the 66th Genoa International Boat Show.
Malcesine, renowned as the “Foiling Capital” of The Foiling Organization, welcomed a diverse audience, including sailors, teams, designers, boat builders, companies, event organisers, national federations, partners, media, and foiling enthusiasts. This gathering reinforced Lake Garda’s reputation as a premier destination for high-performance sailing and foiling.
Public participation exceeded expectations, facilitated by collaborations among the Regione del Veneto, the Municipality of Malcesine, and the Destination Verona & Garda Foundation. Through the expanded Foiling Week Experiences programme, residents and visitors engaged directly with the sport via on-water activities, technical visits, demonstrations, simulators, and interactions with athletes and innovators.
The event was made successful due to the critical role played by Fraglia Vela Malcesine, which has been operational partner since the inaugural edition in 2014. The club’s staff, volunteers, and technical partners contributed significantly to the sporting programme, public activities, and overall operations.
Notable highlights included the ETF26 competition, which featured twelve closely contested races. France’s Entreprises du Morbihan claimed its fourth consecutive Foiling Week title, with Team Pro and Blueshift Sailing Team completing an all-French podium.
The Moth fleet delivered exceptional racing, with reigning World Champion Victoria Schultheis from Malta winning the women’s standings, while Croatian Olympic gold medallist Šime Fantela topped the overall results, followed by Australians Otto Henry and John Harris. The Moth class continues to be a benchmark for modern foiling, showcasing advanced technology and competitive spirit.
Competitions also concluded for the BirdyFish, WingFoil, and Starboard X15 fleets, representing the full spectrum of foiling disciplines. Foiling board disciplines demonstrated unprecedented growth, particularly highlighted by the third edition of the Foiling Week Downwind Race, which attracted record competitors. Winners included Teodoro Rofrano in the Foil Assisted category, Tom Rofrano in Parawing, Marnie Bertram in SUP, and Sergi Sanchez in WingFoil.
Alongside the racing programme, the second edition of the Foiling Sport Congress brought together stakeholders from national federations, classes, events, and companies to discuss the future of foiling. A key session titled “The Peak of Italian Foiling,” moderated by Luca Rizzotti, explored Italy’s rise in international foiling alongside other industry leaders.
The session “Who Tells the Foiling Story?” featured discussions on the international communication of foiling, the fragmentation of media rights, and strategies to expand the sport’s global audience. During this session, The Foiling Organization announced the launch of the Foiling & Sailing Media Meeting.
As Foiling Week concluded its 13th edition, it further established itself as an international platform uniting competition, innovation, education, and local communities in the foiling world, cementing Malcesine’s status as the natural home for this unique sport.
