Whitworths Tackers Boat Program recipients announced

Australian Sailing has announced the recipients of the 2026 Whitworths Tackers Boat Program, which aims to enhance grassroots participation in sailing across the country. This program, supported by Whitworths Marine & Leisure in collaboration with OziOpti, allows Discover Sailing Centres (DSCs) to purchase Tackers Boats at over 50% discount, thus providing essential resources for delivering engaging and accessible Tackers programs.

By lowering the costs associated with acquiring Tackers boats, more DSCs can introduce children to sailing, fostering strong participation pathways in their communities. The Tackers initiative is designed to introduce kids to sailing through fun, games-based activities, helping thousands of young Australians connect with the sport each year.

In 2026, the following nine DSCs have successfully received funding:

– Balmoral Water Sports Centre (NSW)
– Brisbane Sailing Squadron (QLD)
– Carnarvon Yacht Club (WA)
– East Fremantle Sailing Club (WA)
– Hillary’s Yacht Club (WA)
– Lake Cootharaba Sailing Association (QLD)
– Port Kembla Sailing Club (NSW)
– Royal Brighton Yacht Club (VIC)
– Royal Perth Yacht Club (WA)

These centres have shown a strong commitment to increasing junior participation and providing engaging Tackers programs focused on enjoyment, safety, and skill development. With access to new Tackers boats, these DSCs will be better positioned to broaden their offerings and welcome more young sailors.

Sean Gray, Managing Director of Whitworths, expressed pride in supporting sailing clubs throughout Australia with this initiative, congratulating the successful recipients and highlighting the program’s role in nurturing the next generation of sailors. He emphasised the hope that these clubs would deliver memorable sailing experiences and inspire local youths.

Investing in grassroots sailing through this program strengthens club capacity and ensures a sustainable future for the sport by creating opportunities for young sailors to engage, build confidence, and remain connected to their local sailing communities.

Australian Sailing extends its gratitude to Whitworths and OziOpti for their support of this crucial initiative and looks forward to seeing even more children on the water through Tackers programs.
