Camenzind and Fyfe Crowned Champions at PredictWind NZ WASZP Nationals in Manly
The PredictWind New Zealand WASZP Nationals delivered three days of spectacular foiling action at Manly Sailing Club from 20–22 February, with 28 sailors competing across 12 races in classic New Zealand summer conditions. Warm temperatures, steady sea breezes and flat water provided a perfect stage for high-speed racing, producing an exciting regatta that showcased the depth of talent in the New Zealand WASZP fleet.
Camenzind and Mason Dominate the Men’s Fleet
Jasper Camenzind and Will Mason went toe-to-toe across the series, winding up just two points apart when the curtain finally fell. Although both delivered consistent front-of-the-fleet performances, it was Camenzind who secured the Men’s National Championship title with three bullets in the final three races constituting the deciding blows. Will Mason also topped the U19 division, highlighting the strength of the next generation coming through the class. Will Leech rounded out the overall podium in third place after a strong and consistent series after a close fight with Ash Cole.
Fyfe Takes Women’s and 7.5 Titles
In the women’s division, Dahlia Fyfe delivered an outstanding performance, claiming both the Women’s National Championship and the 7.5 rig title. Her confident racing across the 12-race series underlined her growing presence in the class.
Graham Claims Masters Title
Veteran competitor Peter Graham sailed a composed regatta to take out the Masters title, demonstrating that experience and racecraft remain powerful assets in the fast-moving WASZP fleet. Graham wound up a very respectable fifth overall.
Coutts Presents the Prizes
Adding a special touch to the regatta finale, prizes were presented by sailing legend Russell Coutts, the multiple America’s Cup winner and SailGP mastermind. Coutts congratulated the competitors and acknowledged the energy and enthusiasm surrounding the growing foiling class.
