Royal Yacht Club of Victoria announces development of marina

The Royal Yacht Club of Victoria has announced the replacement and extension of its current marina with the latest in floating marinas.

Being the oldest royal yacht club in Australia, 'Royals' believes it has an understanding of the requirements needed in marinas, as Commodore David Seaman explains. “the new marina will have both wave and surge attenuation, to provide a safe environment for our current and future members. Our design brief is focussed on meeting our member’s needs today with additional capacity for the future.

“We understand that boats are getting bigger and we have designed our new marina accordingly. We also recognise the current interest in power boats and we have some pens available for them. We are committed to improving the boating experience for all of our members and visitors with state of the art facilities such as wider walkways, power and water for every berth, pump-out, maintenance and repair facilities.”

Past Commodore and 34 time Sydney to Hobart veteran Bruce Taylor has also thrown his support behind the project and said “this facility will be the most modern and most protected yacht club marina on the bay. It is in the heart of Melbourne's traditional marine precinct, Williamstown, 15 minutes from the CBD and 25 minutes from Melbourne International Airport”

The project has been under development and consideration for some years, and more recently, the club has been working with Parks Victoria, Victoria Police, the state government and various other authorities to ensure the new marina becomes a reality.

The timeframe for the completion of the marina is contingent on the club raising capital for the project through the sale of long-term leases to sailing and motor boat owners. RYCV is offering 20-year leases for pens in the new marina and is now actively seeking expressions of interest from the boating community via the website and the yacht club office.
