A “wonderful and warm” mother died during a yacht race when she fell overboard and her lifejacket did not inflate.

Maxine Wood, 55, was taking part in a yacht race with her husband off the coast of Bridlington (UK) when she was thrown overboard. Tragically, she drowned despite the best efforts of rescuers, an inquest into her death heard.

Stephen Wood, Mrs Wood's husband of 30 years, paid tribute at Hull Coroner's Court. He said: “She was a wonderful and warm lady who was caring and loving to all those around her.

“She was dearly loved by all her family and friends and she was a hugely popular person in the community.”
