Super 60s set to light up Gold Coast International Marine Expo

A showcase of power and sail multihulls ranging from 55 to 65 feet have been confirmed for the 2015 Gold Coast International Marine Expo taking place on the 21st -24 May 2015.

The inaugural Super 60s line-up  will be on display at the Expo site The Boat Works, located at the southern end of the Gold Coast Marine Precinct. Already confirmed for the Super 60s are the 55-65 foot models from several designers and production catamaran yards, including Schionning Designs, TAG Yachts, Catana, Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot.

Organisers have also confirmed an extensive display of  pre-owned multihulls by Malcolm Tennant, Suncoast and Powerplay, with more to come.

Multihull Solutions Managing Director Mark Elkington said there has been a noticeable shift in the market towards larger multihulls above the 55-foot range, with a significant increase in luxury range sales. “Clients who are looking for ultimate comfort and the latest construction and design technologies appreciate the extra benefits these larger multihulls have to offer,” Mark said.

“The multihulls in this range feature an astonishing amount of space for entertaining and relaxing, can undertake faster and safer ocean passages due to their longer waterline, have larger fuel tanks or larger sail plans, offer more stability underway, and also have plenty more room to store recreational equipment,” he said.

The Super 60s is a collaborative venture between marine industry partners who recognise the appeal of bringing together these super multihulls from a range of shipyards, all in one location.

Expo’s Event and Marketing Manager Emma Milne said the addition of the Super 60s to the growing array of marine attractions for 2015 was a significant boon for both the Expo and for visitors. “The Super 60s will be an exciting drawcard in their own right,” she said. “And being able to showcase them for the first time in Australia alongside everything else that Expo has to offer ensures a fantastic visitor experience.

“You really will need more than one day to experience everything that Expo 2015 has to offer.”

The not-for-profit Gold Coast International Marine Expo is a  showcase of all things aquatic – from superyachts to kayaks, jet skis to fishing equipment … and everything else in between. The event also boasts interactive and family-fun entertainment and live demonstrations across its 3km display circuit every 15 minutes.

Ms Milne said it was extremely encouraging that many leading brands had reserved the Expo 2015 date to launch their new boats and products. “Expo 2015 really is shaping up as the boat show with so much more,” she said. “We’ve already announced exclusive new model releases from Quintrex – in fact their entire range of 2015 releases will be on display at their factory – as well as the latest new and impressive releases from Whitehaven Motor Yachts and Havana Houseboats.

“And we have many more exciting boat and product launches to announce in the coming 14 weeks as we count down to Expo 2015.”

Visitors to Expo 2015 will enjoy free bus and water ferry services across the expanded Gold Coast International Marine Expo site, which takes in the Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard, Riviera, the Quintrex factory, Stefan Boating World and The Boat Works, where the Super 60s will be on display.
