Mates4Mates set sail for Southport Yacht Club's Sail Paradise

Four Mates4Mates Members will be on board Southport Yacht Club’s Alacrity tomorrow, Friday 6 March for the Southport Yacht Club’s XXXX Sail Paradise series, which will be contested off the Gold Coast from March 6 to 8.

Mates4Mates organisation provides physical and psychological rehabilitation for current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members who are wounded, injured or ill. John Oakes, Liaison Officer, will be one of the crew on board this Friday. “We are extremely excited about sailing in this regatta alongside vessels such as Black Jack and Alive, and to showcase the Mates4Mates program throughout the sailing fraternity,” said John.

Michael Trivett, member of the organisation who will be sailing on Friday, is currently undergoing lead up training with Mates4Mates vessel Spirit of Mateship in the upcoming Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race. “This will be great practise for Michael, with little previous sailing experience”, said John.

There will be seven veterans in total on board the vessel, including Alacrity’s Skipper, Matthew Percy.

Sail Paradise is considered one of the friendliest regattas in Australia. It offers excellent sailing offshore, and exceptional hospitality at Southport Yacht Club. The regatta is open for a wide variety of sailboats – from Grand Prix level ocean racers to cruising yachts, racing and cruising multihulls and off-the-beach small boats.
