John Calvert-Jones AM and Janet Calvert-Jones AC to support the future of SailLAB

Australian Sailing has announced financial support from John Calvert-Jones AM and Janet Calvert-Jones AC for the SailLAB initiative. John, a long-time Patron of the Australian Sailing Team, has significantly contributed to the sport and is now extending his support to help integrate sailing values into educational environments across Australia.

SailLAB aims to engage students through sailing-focused learning experiences, promoting critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and STEM capabilities. The initiative connects sailing with educational outcomes, equipping young Australians with skills for their futures.

Malcolm Page OAM, CEO of Australian Sailing, expressed gratitude for the Calvert-Jones’ contributions, noting John’s pivotal role in supporting high-performance athletes. The program is set to reach over 1,800 students by 2026, with 40 schools already committed to implementing SailLAB lessons. Continued financial support is essential for expanding resources and access to more schools.

John Calvert-Jones commented on the initiative’s potential impact, highlighting its role in fostering confidence and curiosity among young people while enhancing science and technology education through sailing.

The contribution will enable Australian Sailing to extend the reach of SailLAB, with more staff on hand to develop engaging educational resources. Australian Sailing encourages community members and supporters of education to contribute towards the initiative’s growth through the Australian Sports Foundation fundraising campaign.

Support from John and Janet is deemed crucial for the long-term success of SailLAB, with a call for broader community involvement to help inspire future generations of young Australians through sailing.

To support the SailLAB initiative, contributions can be made via the Australian Sports Foundation SailLAB project page.
