Class 40 once again emerges as the largest division in the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe, embodying the essence of the event. Professional solo skippers will navigate 40-foot boats, each varying in design with some featuring scows and others with pointy bows, all aiming to conquer the challenging autumn conditions and cross the Atlantic to reach Guadeloupe.
This year’s race promises an open competition for the title, determining the successor to Yoann Richomme, who has clinched victory in the last two editions. The 2022 race was marked by stunning visuals, with a clear sky and the Class40 fleet launching into action. Back then, competitors had to wait an additional three days in Saint-Malo due to adverse weather before starting the race. The solo battle was intense, with the first seven boats arriving in Guadeloupe within a span of 20 hours.
This edition will see 49 skippers from various backgrounds, reflecting the strength and diversity of the Class40. Both amateur and professional sailors will compete, highlighting the spirit of the Route du Rhum.
The stakes are particularly high this year, as a new champion will emerge in the absence of Yoann Richomme. Key contenders include Guillaume Pirouelle (Sogestran Seafrigo) and Corentin Douguet (SNSM, Faites un don!).
