Congratulations to Brendan Casey, Bruce Savage, Jeff Loosemore and John Roberson for their podium finishes. It was a podium double for Bruce, with his Bronze in the ILCA 7 to go with his Silver last week in the ILCA 6.
The 2026 ILCA 7 Masters World Championship concluded on Tuesday in Athens, Greece, after six days of racing and twelve races completed across all divisions.
The final day delivered two races sailed on schedule in a 10 to 14-knot south-easterly breeze from 160 to 170 degrees. Choppy waves provided a fitting final challenge for the fleet, which enjoyed another competitive day of racing in the waters of the Saronic Gulf.
After twelve races, five sailors emerged as world champions in their respective age categories.
“Both events, the ILCA 6 World Championship and the ILCA 7 World Championship, were outstanding. The Nautical Club of Kalamaki did an excellent job, the sailors are very satisfied, and that gives us great pleasure. Both regattas were fair, and I am confident that the sailors will return to their home countries feeling highly satisfied. We have organized many championships together with the Nautical Club of Kalamaki, and I am certain that we will organize many more in the future,” said Mark Lyttle, Grand Masters winner and President of the Class.
“Our reward for our work is the smiles and comments of the athletes. These are what give us the strength to keep going. They make us proud and fill us with confidence for the future and for organizing even better events. It is also very important that Greek sailors celebrated medal-winning performances. We would like to thank all the sailors, coaches, and their accompanying team members who came to Greece and took part in these two events. We also thank the ILCA leadership for the trust they placed in us, and the Hellenic Sailing Federation for its partnership in co-organizing these championships,” declared George Christopoulos, President of the Nautical Club of Kalamaki.
This year also marked the debut of the Legends category at an ILCA 7 Masters World Championship. Their enthusiasm, competitive spirit and commitment to the sport continue to demonstrate that age is no barrier to enjoying high-level racing and the camaraderie that makes Masters sailing so special.
