WASZP All-Stars Invitational Day 1

Pensacola, USA – March 17, 2025 — American sailors dominated the inaugural WASZP All-Stars Invitational on Day 1. Gavin Ball leads the Men’s fleet, and Pearl Lattanzi tops the Women’s leaderboard, as they face off for a prize purse of US$10,000. Both athletes delivered impressive performances, setting the stage for an intense rivalry as the event continues.

The WASZP All-Stars Invitational is an elite, invitation-only event that gathers the top-ranked WASZP sailors globally. Eight men and seven women compete solely based on merit in high-intensity sprint races. This new format demands peak performance from both sailors and the WASZP, providing thrilling foiling competition.

Men’s Fleet – Ball Does It the Hard Way

Ball’s leadership in the Men’s fleet was solidified after overcoming a challenging start; called over the line in Race 1, he showcased resilience and tactical skill, finishing that race first and securing victories in three subsequent races. Australia’s Louis Tilly trails him closely, just two points behind, while France’s Hippolyte Gruet sits in third, maintaining a consistent performance.

Women’s Fleet – Lattanzi Piling On

Pearl Lattanzi’s strong performance in the Women’s fleet continues her remarkable season; she currently has 20 points, closely followed by Canada’s Grace Poole with 23 points after winning two races today. Australia’s Bridget Conrad holds third place with 30 points, establishing a competitive atmosphere with no room for error due to the absence of discards.

The All-Stars Invitational concludes tomorrow, with heightening expectations for the remaining sailors as they aim to challenge the American dominance. The champions will be awarded at the American Magic performance and innovation centre, a facility designed for the training and development of elite sailors.
