SailGP confirms long-term commitment with Valencia

SailGP has officially announced its long-term commitment to Valencia, having signed a three-year agreement to host the Spain Sail Grand Prix starting September 5-6, 2026. This event marks the debut of SailGP in Valencia, expanding the prestigious racing series to a city renowned for its maritime heritage.

This decision follows the season opener of the Rolex SailGP Championship in Perth, with Valencia joining a roster of iconic locations such as Rio de Janeiro, Bermuda, and New York, establishing itself as a permanent part of the SailGP calendar through to 2028.

SailGP CEO, Sir Russell Coutts, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting Valencia’s ideal racing conditions and strong sporting traditions. He indicated that securing a multi-year commitment is crucial for providing a memorable experience for fans and reinforcing Spain’s passion for sailing.

Valencia’s rich maritime history, from its 15th-century port to its modern marina, makes it a fitting new home for SailGP after a successful four-year run in Andalucía-Cádiz. Tickets for the inaugural Spain Sail Grand Prix will go on sale in February, with advance access available for SailGP+ members.

Comments from key figures included statements from Diego Botín, driver for the Spain SailGP Team, who expressed excitement about returning to Valencia, and comments from local government leaders showcasing the city’s readiness to host high-calibre sporting events.

The Provincial Council of Valencia also expressed its support, noting the economic and tourism advantages that this event will bring to the region. The Valencia Government regards this partnership as an opportunity to highlight the area’s capabilities in international event hosting.
