Whitsundays racing in the Aug/Sept Australian Sailing + Yachting

It is that time of year again when sailors pack up and head north to warmer climates – primarily the Whitsundays. For those of you that need a little extra helping hand, Will Oxley gives some advice on navigating the islands and dealing with the difficult tide and weather conditions in the latest issue of Australian Sailing + Yachting. If you want to know what to expect at this year's Hamilton Island Race Week, Lisa Ratcliff has spoken to PRO Denis Thompson about what is in store.

One of the key elements to a good race is a good start. Michael Blackburn has some tips on what not to do on the start line. While Roger McMillan looks into the issue of large ships vs small yachts. If you are a sailor, chances are you have come across a ship or a ferry at some stage. Check out View From the Bridge to see what the drivers can actually see from the bridge of these vessels.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to design a set of sails that will race around the world? Gautier Sergent from North Sails explains the process of creating the sail wardrobe for the next Volvo Ocean Race.

We also have the first of a two-part feature on the A Class Cats and the development of the class. There is a test of the new HH42 racer, some downwind strategy advice, a list of tool kit essentials and how to fit an internal transducers.
