North Sails is one of the leading sailmakers in the world with lofts and manufacturing facilities around the world. In 1984 Michael Coxon and Grant Simmer purchased North Sails Australia from the US parent company. In 2001 Grant Simmer's departure to America's Cup team Alinghi saw Richie Allanson step into the co-director role with Coxon.
The Northern Beaches based loft has played a large part in 18 Foot skiff Gotta Lov it 7's six JJ Giltinan victories and other successful 18 footer campaigns. North Sails are seen on the majority of yachts on the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race start line including Wild Oats XI and Comanche.
