The Mooloolaba Yacht Club, located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, is seeking a keel boat coach to work with the club’s Youth Development Program (YDP).
The YDP is focused on developing dinghy sailors into competent keel boat sailors and assisting the senior members to prepare for and then participate in national-level match race competition.
MYC owns four Elliott 6m yachts and a coaching RIB which are used for the program.
The MYC YDP coach is a contract position. The successful applicant will be required to develop a program pathway for the progression of both the development and advanced squad members, to coach the squad members in the steps to achieve competent keel boat handling and racing skills and to either deliver directly or to source and work with a specialist match racing coach to assist the squad to attain competency in match racing.
Applicants need to be self-motivated, successful problem solvers, with solid leadership skills and experience in keel boat coaching.
A Queensland Working with Children card will be required before an appointment to this position can be finalised.
The MYC YDP has been running for two years. During that time the advanced squad members have competed in national level events in Queensland and NSW. They have achieved podium places in some events.
There is no lack of eager young Coast youth sailors wanting to be a part of the club’s youth program.
The program is supported by two MYC Board members and a program administrator.
Currently the squad are scheduled to train every second Saturday afternoon and to participate in match racing events in Mooloolaba, Brisbane and inter-state.
The coach’s contract will include allowances for program administration and for coaching at away events.
