Jon Sanders rescued from sinking yacht off the Gascoigne coast

He sailed three times around the world without stopping and has circumnavigated a total of nine times without major incident. But luck ran out for famous Australian solo sailor Jon Sanders yesterday when his yacht began to fill with water 10 kilometres off the coast, north of Kalbari.

AMSA coordinated the search and a rescue plane directed two merchant vessels to the area. Jon was recovered safe and well and is believed to be resting in Geraldton.

He often does yacht deliveries around the coast of Australia and is believed to be the only person whom insurers will cover to deliver solo.
