Income Asset Management joins as naming rights partner for inaugural Australian Maxi Championship

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia is delighted to welcome Income Asset Management as the naming rights partner for the inaugural Australian Maxi Championship.

This new regatta has been introduced by Australian Sailing to provide additional racing for maxis and mini maxis, with the CYCA hosting the maiden event.

The 2021 Income Asset Management Australian Maxi Championship will feature two divisions – the Maxi Division (80-100 foot) and Mini Maxi Division (60-79 foot).

The fleet will compete across up to four races from Friday 3 – Tuesday 7 December, beginning with the Cabbage Tree Island Race and concluding with the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge.

On the partnership with the CYCA, Jon Lechte, CEO of IAM, said: “IAM is looking forward to being an active participant at the Club and hope to bring many of our team and clients to experience the excitement of sailing at all levels.

“I have had a long interest in sailing, owning a number of yachts, and sailing in the 2014 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race on A Cunning Plan and other Bass Strait races from Melbourne.

“More recently, I have been fighting out in the Racer/Cruiser Division at Hamilton Island Race Week on Ciao Bella.”

Noel Cornish AM, Commodore of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, welcomed IAM on board.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with Income Asset Management for what is set to be a thrilling battle for the inaugural Australian Maxi Championship titles,” Commodore Cornish said.

“The CYCA is honoured to be hosting this event and it’s great to see such a strong fleet locked in.

“We look forward to working with the team at IAM and sharing coverage of the Championship with the global sailing community.”

The three super maxis entered into the 2021 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race make up the Maxi Division: Peter Harburg’s Reichel/Pugh 100 Black Jack (skippered by Mark Bradford), Christian Beck’s Juan-K 100 LawConnect and Seng Huang Lee’s Dovell 100 SHK Scallywag 100 (skippered by David Witt).

There will be strong competition in the Mini Maxi Division, which features Philip Turner’s Reichel/Pugh 66 Alive (skippered by Australian Offshore Sailor of the Year, Duncan Hine), Sean Langman’s Reichel/Pugh 69 Moneypenny, David Gotze’s Reichel/Pugh 63 No Limit, Anthony Johnston’s Reichel/Pugh 72 URM (skippered by Marcus Ashley-Jones), David Griffith’s JV62 Whisper, The Oatley Family’s Reichel/Pugh 66 Wild Oats X (skippered by Mark Richards), and Jim Cooney’s Volvo 70 Willow.

The start of the 2021 Cabbage Tree Island Race (Friday 3 December) and the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge (Tuesday 7 December) will be streamed LIVE on the CYCA TV YouTube channel and CYCA Facebook page.
