The 2026 GWA Surf-Freestyle season commenced with excitement at the 29th Mondial du Vent in Leucate, France, where 44 competitors from 12 nations faced off in challenging conditions. Tomas Acherer secured the men’s title with an impressive heat score of 26.63, marking the highest of the event, while Rocco Makana and Luca Vuillermet earned spots on the podium for the first time.
In the women’s category, Nia Suardiaz dominated the competition, finishing first, followed by Ava Segersten, a debutante, in second place. Twelve-year-old Sofia Ginzinger marked her entry into the sport by securing third place in a remarkable performance.
