BIA launches Go Boating SA

The Boating Industry Association (BIA) has launched the Go Boating SA campaign to promote various forms of boating across South Australia. BIA CEO Andrew Fielding emphasised that the campaign aims to foster safe and responsible boating practices among residents and visitors, encouraging them to experience and enjoy the state’s extensive waterways.

Fielding stated, “Whether it is by paddle, power or sail along the coast or on the inland rivers and lakes, SA has something to suit all forms of boating. This campaign supports our industry, marine jobs, and the wider community while promoting boating as an outstanding outdoor activity.”

With more than 70 per cent of South Australia’s coastlines unaffected by the algal bloom and all freshwater fishing areas open and safe, the campaign aims to highlight the opportunities for recreational boating throughout the State.

The objectives of the Go Boating SA campaign include:

  • Encouraging the boating public to continue safe, responsible, and enjoyable boating, especially during temporary algal bloom-related fishing restrictions;
  • Increasing public awareness of government support measures, such as registration discounts and free ramp access;
  • Supporting the boating industry and marine sector jobs;
  • Reinforcing that most SA waterways are open for responsible enjoyment.

The campaign is funded by a grant from the Government of South Australia and will be delivered through various marketing channels, including social media and television, until April 2026.

The BIA serves as Australia’s peak industry body representing a broad range of stakeholders in the boating sector, including designers, manufacturers, brokers, and yacht clubs. The association reported a national industry turnover last year exceeding $10.2 billion, employing around 35,000 people across more than 2,000 businesses, with 75 per cent being small family operations supporting local communities.

In Australia, over 85 per cent of the population resides within 50km of the coast, making boating a popular recreational activity for many, with nearly one in five households owning a boat or watercraft.
