The 2026 29er Australian Championships concluded today at Sandy Bay Sailing Club, following five days of high-quality racing across 14 races.
Competition was intense, with a variety of conditions testing both local and interstate sailors. The light and variable winds on the final day allowed for only one race to be completed, reshuffling the leaderboard.
After a series that was decided by merely 0.4 of a point, Goro Tomishima and Orlando Sadlik (NSW) claimed the title of 29er Australian Champions and finished as the top Open team. Goro Tomishima was also recognised as the first-place Junior Skipper.
Finishing in a narrow second place were Finley Symonds and Alasdair Cameron (WA), who made a strong push up the leaderboard with three race wins on day four, just missing out on the title. The third place overall was taken by Ethan Kiu and Louis Polson, representing Tasmania and Hong Kong, who were also the first-place Junior Team.
The Female 29er National Champions for the second consecutive year are Mia Austin and Zara Marks (NSW), who finished sixth overall. The top female skipper in a mixed crew was Cate McCoy, sailing with Josh Garner.
The top nine boats from the championship earn invitations to compete at the Open 29er World Championships in Kiel, Germany.
