Tokyo 2020: Lasers experience light air on Day 1

July 25: Australian sailors were faced with light winds, a delay and a postponement on the first day of action at the long-awaited Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Team Leader Iain Murray shared his thoughts on the day with us here.

“Today was a really light and variable day which made things tricky, it would have been nice to start in a little more stable breeze. In the morning Mara (Stransky) started in a east-north-easterly winds and the day finished in a very light south-westerly, so the breeze effectively did a 180-degree turn during the day,” said Murray.

“Mara had a great first race but tougher second race and Matt (Wearn) had a tough race with a 17th. He’ll bounce back from that and he knows that his job just got a bit harder. But the good guys will rise from it and carry on, there are 10 races and we look forward to getting back on the water tomorrow.”
