The 2024 world champions, Tony Langley’s Gladiator, demonstrated promising form in practice races ahead of the Rolex TP52 World Championship in Porto Cervo, which kicks off on Tuesday. Leading both practice races in light winds, Gladiator, which previously secured the world title in Newport RI, showed speed and smooth sailing after a sixth-place finish in the season’s first regatta in Puerto Portals, Mallorca.
Guille Parada took the helm, while owner Langley and Victor Diaz de Leon, who joined from the champions American Magic Quantum Racing, collaborated on tactics. Despite a strong performance, Parada remained cautious, suggesting that the challenging conditions would require trust in their strategy and teamwork as they prepared for the competition ahead.
This regatta marks the debut of the Italian Vudu team and features a record 15 TP52s on the starting line, the largest since the 52 SUPER SERIES began in 2012. The event, hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, has been sponsored by Rolex since 2017 and is anticipated to showcase intense competition.
The Rolex TP52 World Championship Porto Cervo 2026 is scheduled from Tuesday, June 16 to Saturday, June 20, culminating in the crowning of the 2026 TP52 World Champion in the Piazza Azzurra at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.
The regatta will be broadcast live via the official 52 SUPER SERIES media platforms.
