World Sailing has established a new system to support the development of Offshore Special Regulations (OSR) as part of its strategy to enhance offshore sailing. This initiative aims to foster collaboration and encourage direct engagement from the offshore sailing community.
Matt Allen, Chair of World Sailing’s Offshore and Oceanic Committee, emphasised the importance of this initiative in keeping the community informed and involved in the governance process. He stated, “By initiating this two-way channel, we can modernise the sport and improve the service for sailors.”
James Dadd, Chair of the Special Regulations Sub-Committee, highlighted the need for balancing safety with complexity and costs in the development of OSR. He noted that stakeholder input not only ensures their voices are heard but also provides insights into the changes that affect the sport.
Stakeholders in the offshore sailing community are encouraged to subscribe for direct email notifications, receiving updates on new proposals and changes to the OSR approved by the Oceanic and Offshore Committee. Additionally, an online feedback form has been introduced for sailors, manufacturers, and organising authorities to share their insights directly with World Sailing.
The initiative aims to enhance the participation of the offshore community in shaping future regulations, ensuring a more inclusive and responsive governance process.
