From 11-18 July 2026, the WASZP class will return to Mar Menor, Spain for the 2026 European Championship. The event follows a successful Europeans in 2022, hosted by the Federación de Vela Región de Murcia, and promises a large fleet next year.
Mar Menor is a foiling paradise in southern Spain, offering flat water and reliable thermal winds, ideal for WASZP sailors. The venue is also a popular tourist destination, with numerous bars, restaurants, and beaches.
Over 200 boats from across the globe are expected to participate in various racing formats, including Sprint and Distance, along with traditional windward-leeward courses.
The growth of the WASZP class in Spain is attributed to the efforts of the Spanish WASZP Class and Renting RIBs. Talent such as Pablo Astiazaran and Antonio Gasperini recently showcased their skills at the WASZP Games, while Sol Lopez Navarro has been a consistent presence on the women’s podium. The event will feature top Spanish sailors competing for titles on home waters.
True to WASZP’s inclusive spirit, the event welcomes sailors of all ages and skill levels. The Green Fleet will provide coaching for newcomers, ensuring a rewarding experience for all participants.
Mikel Vazquez, Spanish WASZP class president, encourages all masters to join: “The young sailors are thriving in the WASZP, but it is important to show that this is a class for everybody. Join us in Mar Menor for an amazing time on the water and great social experiences for the masters’ community!”
Martin Evans, WASZP Class Manager, remarked, “Mar Menor is among the top foiling venues globally, offering space for multiple courses and excellent racing conditions. The venue blends racing and social activities seamlessly, making it a true holiday destination. It’s going to be huge!”
