St Francis Yacht Club to host 2026 Women’s Match Racing Worlds

World Sailing has announced that the 2026 World Sailing Women’s Match Racing World Championship will take place at the St Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, California, from 30 September to 4 October 2026.

Susan Ruhne, Commodore of St. Francis Yacht Club, expressed excitement about hosting this prestigious event, highlighting the club’s long-standing commitment to promoting women’s sailing. Ruhne noted the thrill of watching elite female sailors compete in the waters just outside their clubhouse, emphasizing that the Bay Area is becoming a growing hub for women’s professional sports.

Cory Sertl, World Sailing’s Vice-President, stated, “We are absolutely thrilled to head to the iconic waters of San Francisco for the 2026 Championship. San Francisco Bay is renowned for its challenging sailing conditions, and with the experience of the St. Francis Yacht Club, we aim to provide a grand stage for these elite athletes.”

The championship will feature the defending champion, Pauline Courtois, alongside 11 top-ranked women skippers selected from the World Sailing Women’s Match Racing Ranking list. The event will not only showcase competitive racing but also celebrate the strength of the international women’s sailing community.

Racing will follow a Round Robin format using StFYC’s fleet of J/22s, with teams of four or five competing. The schedule includes a practice day on 30 September, followed by four days of racing starting on 1 October, culminating in the finals and awards on 4 October.
