Sandringham Yacht Club seeks boating manager

Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC), one of Australia’s most progressive and awarded yacht clubs, is looking for an experienced person to fill the role of Boating Manager.

SYC is an outstanding sailing facility in Victoria with 2,600 members, 500 onsite boats and a healthy boating program. The purpose of this position is to manage, organise and arrange for the conduct of all on-water racing and related events at SYC.

An exciting challenge, the position takes in all racing across the Club’s three core boating streams (keelboats, dinghy and recreational boating) as well as the delivery of its regattas. This position also oversees the Clubs thriving boating academy and boating programs.

The successful candidate will also co-ordinate recruitment, rostering, supervision and management of the volunteer Race Management teams required to deliver the racing and events calendar. Training and upskilling of our race management volunteer base is a very important part of the role.     

A diverse and challenging position, the Boating Manager must hold a State Race Officer certificate and it is preferable they also hold a National and or International Race Officer certificate.

Other requirements are: a solid knowledge of racing rules, course setting, water safety and related race management matters, attention to detail and a common-sense approach when dealing with members in the coordination and running of yacht racing events.

The position deals with many stakeholders on a day-to-day basis, including at meetings. As such, applicants need to possess great communication skills and be highly professional and courteous.

Applicants also need to be at home around computers. If needed, training will be provided in the use of Microsoft Office, Top Yacht sailing software and Micropower.

This is a full time role working predominantly a Wednesday – Sunday roster including attendance at evening meetings. He or she will work in a friendly and supportive environment in a prime location in Melbourne’s Bayside waterfront.  

The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be accountable to the respective club captains – keelboats, dinghy and recreational boating and will be responsible for the delivery of their racing and events calendar.

SYC is looking to make an appointment in the coming months with a preferred start date no later than 1 September 2015.
