Morris ready to rumble at iQFOiL European Championships

Racing at the iQFOiL European Championships begins on 18 May in Portimão, Portugal, with Australia’s Grae Morris returning to a venue where he claimed the iQFOiL Under 23 World Championship title last year. Morris arrives in strong form after winning at French Olympic Week in Hyères earlier this season.

Portimão is known for its diverse conditions, with strong offshore and cross-shore winds common, alongside potential onshore sea breezes that can create challenging sea states for competitors.

Morris feels prepared, having trained in Europe and participated in practice regattas leading up to the event. “I’ve done my normal lead-up towards this event, which has been positive, and I’m looking forward to it starting,” he shared.

He is adopting a flexible approach to the conditions, stating, “I haven’t looked at the conditions. I’m approaching it more with a ‘you get what you get, and you don’t get upset’ mindset for this event. I’m excited to execute a good regatta. If I can do that, then I’ll be at the pointy end preparing for a tough but fun medal race, as per usual.”

Morris will compete alongside three fellow Australians in the men’s division, including U19 World Champion Rory Meehan, while the women’s division will feature two Australian entries.

Racing continues through the weekend, culminating in the medal series on 23 May, when the European Champions will be crowned.
