Fremantle to Exmouth Race has been cancelled

When the Fremantle to Bali Race and Rally was postponed for a year owing to concerns about the COVID-19 virus in Indonesia, a substitute event was planned for May 2020 – a race to Exmouth. The Fremantle Sailing Club has now issued the following newsletter:

In these turbulent times, circumstances are changing not just every day, but every hour.

The number of deaths around the world and the frightening speed at which the Covid-19 virus has spread through countries like Italy have brought home to everyone the full extent of the difficult times that lie ahead.

In the face of advice from both government and the medical profession, the Fremantle Sailing Club is unable to proceed with plans for a yacht race to Exmouth in May.

Club CEO Karen Baldwin has sent a refund claim form to each owner who paid an entry fee to enable them to be reimbursed.

We would also like to pay tribute to those who were ready to assist the Exmouth event, particularly the good folk at the Pot Shot Inn, who offered to provide free accommodation for the race team immediately they were approached.

The Bali 2020 organising committee has had an unenviable task over the past few months. Our thanks to Mike and his team for guiding us through this crisis.

You will notice that this newsletter is not numbered. When events return to normal—and they will—we will start again with Number One, in preparation for the best Fremantle to Bali Race ever!

In the meantime, please take care of one another and stay safe.
