On 6 July 2026, Emirates Team New Zealand completed their first training session on the Bay of Naples, the venue for the upcoming Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup in 2027. The team took advantage of perfect sailing conditions with a 10–15 knot seabreeze, putting their two AC40 foiling monohulls to the test right off the waterfront of Naples. This marks a significant milestone in their preparations for the prestigious event.
The training session allowed the Kiwi team, under the leadership of CEO Grant Dalton, to gain invaluable experience on the actual racecourse. The picturesque backdrop of Mount Vesuvius and Castel dell’Ovo contrasted with their recent training in Auckland’s winter conditions. This specific training block aligns perfectly with the schedule for the 2027 America’s Cup Match, enabling the squad to gather critical data and insights that will be beneficial in defending their title.
The Naples training is not only a long-term strategy for the upcoming Cup but also serves as preparation for the second Preliminary Regatta scheduled for 24–27 September 2026. During this event, the fleet of AC40s is expected to grow and become increasingly competitive, making the current training even more pertinent.
With the clock ticking towards the defence of the Auld Mug, mastering the nuances of the Bay of Naples is fundamental to their campaign as they aim for a fourth consecutive America’s Cup victory.
