In the grand hall of the Palazzo Reale in Naples, the announcement of the America’s Cup Partnership (ACP) was unveiled, attended by key governmental figures and media representatives. This partnership marks a significant development in the preparation for the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup.
The Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup Match is set to commence with two opening races on Saturday, July 10, 2027, concluding by the weekend of July 17-18, 2027, as confirmed by Grant Dalton, CEO of Emirates Team New Zealand. The event’s planning focused on the ‘Road to Naples’ and the associated challenges ahead.
Pietro Beccari, Chief Executive Officer of Louis Vuitton, formally announced the brand’s continuous sponsorship and further commitment to the Cup, reinforcing Louis Vuitton’s involvement since the inception of the Louis Vuitton Cup in 1983.
In attendance were representatives from five teams: Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL), GB1 (GBR), Luna Rossa (ITA), Tudor Team Alinghi (SUI), and K-Challenge (FRA). The partnership aims for a modern and inclusive transformation of the event, as noted by Beccari.
Strategic speeches were made by Italian institutional leaders, highlighting the significance of the competition for cultural and sport identity. The Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, described it as a collaborative bridge between tradition and innovation, enhancing media reach and international visibility for Italy.
The Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, confirmed that the city is well underway with preparations for the Cup, eager to showcase Naples as a premier sailing destination.
Marking the start of the ACP was a cultural welcome from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, signifying the connection between the event’s history and its future. The Māori iwi presented Pounamu taonga to team members, symbolising heritage and respect.
Team leaders discussed the ACP’s influence on both the competitive spirit and commercial appeal of the America’s Cup, with Grant Dalton and Sir Ben Ainslie expressing optimism on the partnership’s potential to grow enthusiasm and investment in the event.
The next steps include the first Preliminary Regatta at Cagliari, with active discussions among teams about leveraging technological advancements and sustainability as part of the Cup’s future.
