The teams to beat at the RS21 World Championship 2026

With 40 entries representing 14 countries and more than 160 sailors, the 2026 RS21 World Championship is shaping up for four days of competitive racing at the Yacht Club de Cannes, France, from 28–31 October.

The fleet includes reigning world champions, European medallists and national title-holders, with several established teams returning to challenge for the championship.

Among the 40 entries, six teams arrive with particularly strong credentials following their performances at recent international and national events.

Les Freaks (HKG 295) – Defending World Champions

Hong Kong’s Les Freaks return to defend the world title they secured at the 2025 RS21 World Championship.

As reigning champions, the team will be among the favourites in Cannes, although retaining the title against a strong international fleet will be no easy task.

Magique et Terrible (ITA 230) – Women’s World Champions

Italy’s all-female Magique et Terrible team arrives with an impressive record, having won the 2025 Women’s World Championship and the Corinthian division of the 2026 Italian Cup.

Their performances across both women’s and Corinthian competition demonstrate their credentials heading into another major international event.

Ultrastar (POL 247) – Consistent International Performers

Poland’s Ultrastar has established itself as a regular podium contender, finishing second in the Corinthian division at the 2025 RS21 World Championship.

The team followed that result with another silver medal at the 2026 European Championship, held during the RS Games in Travemünde, Germany.

With two major podium finishes behind them, Ultrastar will be looking to go one better in Cannes.

T-Rex (ITA 161) – Italian Cup Champions

Fresh from winning the 2026 Italian Cup, T-Rex will be looking to carry its domestic form into the World Championship.

The Italian team joins a competitive international fleet, with its recent championship victory providing a strong foundation for the event.

Tiga Tiger (GBR 341) – British National Champions

Great Britain’s Tiga Tiger arrives in Cannes following a successful 2026 season.

The team claimed the UK and Ireland National Championship title and also won the Corinthian division at Act 5 of the Italian Cup.

Those results demonstrate the team’s ability to perform across different fleets and conditions, making it another contender to watch.

RS Enterprise (GER 289) – European Corinthian Medallists

Germany’s RS Enterprise completes the group of leading contenders after securing silver in the Corinthian division at the 2026 European Championship.

The result at the RS Games in Travemünde gives the German crew valuable international form heading into the Worlds.

Championship Battle Set for Cannes

With defending champions, national title-holders and European medallists among the entries, the 2026 RS21 World Championship promises close competition across the four days of racing.

While these six teams bring proven results to the event, the 40-boat fleet includes plenty of other crews capable of challenging for leading positions.

The championship takes place at the Yacht Club de Cannes from 28–31 October, with entries still open ahead of the event.
