SailGP Training F50 Arrives in Pensacola Ahead of New Base Opening

SailGP’s new Pensacola training base is preparing to open next week, with the league’s dedicated training F50 arriving on site ahead of the first teams.

Behind-the-scenes videos show shore crew unpacking multiple containers as they prepare to build, test and sea trial the F50 ahead of the first teams arriving to train at the facility.

Set to become fully operational next week, the facility is located at the American Magic Performance and Innovation Center in Pensacola and will give SailGP’s 13 national teams access to world-class facilities to support year-round training.

Six teams, including Emirates GBR, have already booked training time at the facility – with Emirates GBR due to arrive next week in preparation for the last two events of the season.

Announced in January, the Pensacola training center will allow SailGP teams to test, train and innovate outside of race weekends for the first time and will be crucial, said league CEO Russell Coutts, in helping teams take a more professional approach to team management.

“Pensacola will be a ‘huge factor’ in allowing the training of new athletes and building squad depth throughout all teams”.

“The shareholders, sponsors and fans of these teams demand results – so there’s far more pressure on athletes and managers to perform than ever before”.
