The WASZP All-Stars event in Cádiz showcased an elite fleet of 16 sailors competing for a total prize purse of €10,000 across 26 races over two days. Italy’s Francesco Carrieri claimed the men’s title, while Olivia Castaldi secured the women’s championship, with both winning €5,000 each.
The competition featured a unique format where the sailors shared eight WASZP dinghies, leading to intense sprint racing with no option for dropped races. The weekend was marked by varying conditions, with easterly winds on the first day followed by a stronger Cádiz sea breeze on the second, allowing for thrilling finishes.
Carrieri’s consistent performance earned him the lead, while Spain’s Antonio Gasperini and France’s Hippolyte Gruet rounded out the men’s podium. On the women’s side, Castaldi prevailed in a tightly contested fleet, finishing ahead of Spain’s Sol López Navarro and Sweden’s Elsa Aronsson.
Pablo Guitian, Manager of Foiling Base Cádiz, expressed satisfaction with the event, highlighting the challenging conditions and the athletes’ efforts in competing for the prestigious title.
The WASZP All-Stars event represents the first step in a long-term partnership that aims to enhance foiling competitions in the region, including the upcoming WASZP EuroCup Final in 2027. Foiling Base Cádiz is committed to supporting WASZP sailors with comprehensive training throughout the winter months.
