The Elite Yachting Services Northshore Pittwater Regatta will return to RMYC Broken Bay from Friday 2 October to Sunday 4 October, bringing together Northshore yacht owners for a weekend of racing and socialising on Pittwater.
Following the inaugural event last year, which attracted a fleet of 17 boats, organisers are hoping to grow the regatta to around 25 entries for its second running.
Created by RMYC Broken Bay as an event specifically for Northshore owners, the regatta celebrates both the enduring popularity of the Australian-designed yachts and the community that has developed around them.
“Since the regatta, we have had many people interested who weren’t part of last year’s competition and have expressed much interest in competing this year,” the club said.
A fleet spanning the Northshore range
The regatta is open to Northshore yachts ranging from 27 to 38 feet, with racing divided into spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions.
There should be plenty of competition among the returning boats.
Last year’s champion Moonshine, skippered by Brad Payten, will be one to watch, along with local contenders Gusto, skippered by Colin Hills; True Blue, skippered by John Stewart; and Einon, skippered by Peter Edmunds.
Organisers are also expecting competition from Sydney Harbour as well as several new entries looking to make their mark on the event.
Racing and socialising at the newly renovated RMYC
This year’s regatta will also provide competitors with the opportunity to experience the recently completed redevelopment of RMYC Broken Bay.
The club will offer breakfast throughout the weekend for sailors and visitors, with presentations following each day’s racing.
Saturday evening will feature a post-race BBQ and drinks on the Top Deck Terrace, giving competitors the chance to catch up away from the racecourse.
Adding to the Northshore theme will be guest speakers Hank Hauffman and John Buck, designer and founders of Northshore Yachts.
Dinner will also be available at the club on Friday and Sunday evenings for sailors and visitors staying at the marina.
Building the Northshore community
While the racing is an important part of the weekend, the club sees the regatta as an opportunity to continue building the community surrounding Northshore yachts.
“Come along to the Elite Yachting Services Northshore Pittwater Regatta,” the club said.
“Lots of tight racing, camaraderie and socialising to create an iconic event for Northshore yacht owners and celebrate the fantastic achievements of Northshores.”
With a larger fleet expected and RMYC Broken Bay’s redevelopment now complete, the second Elite Yachting Services Northshore Pittwater Regatta is shaping up as another enjoyable weekend of racing and socialising on Pittwater.
