Australian Sailing welcomes high performance investment through Win Well strategy

Australian Sailing has welcomed the Australian Government’s announcement of a $513 million investment in high performance sport, reinforcing its commitment to Australian athletes and the long-term success of the nation’s sporting system.

The funding, delivered through the Win Well strategy, will support the Australian Sailing Team as they prepare for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, with financial backing confirmed until 2028. This investment will be divided among 68 high performance programs, ensuring record levels of funding continue through to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Malcolm Page OAM OLY, Chief Executive Officer of Australian Sailing, stated that the announcement provides much-needed certainty for athletes, coaches, and support staff as they build towards the upcoming Olympic Games.

“This significant investment by the Australian Government is greatly appreciated, and we thank Minister Wells, the Australian Sports Commission, and the Australian Institute of Sport for their ongoing commitment to high performance sport,” Page said. “This funding is a strong endorsement of our team and the unification of the high-performance system under the Win Well strategy.”

To ensure optimal athlete success at Los Angeles 2028 and beyond, Page emphasised the importance of current investments in support structures.

Iain Brambell OLY, High Performance Director at Australian Sailing, remarked that continued funding is crucial for maintaining momentum and providing athletes with world-class support. He noted that retaining key coaches and performance specialists is essential for the team’s success.

“High performance results require consistent investment in people, programmes, and environments. This funding allows us to build capability and consistency, ensuring athletes have access to the expertise and resources they need to compete at the front of the fleet,” Brambell said.

As Australia’s second most successful Olympic multi-Gold medal winning sport, having secured multiple Gold medals at three of the past five Olympic Games, this funding will help ensure Sailing continues its rich Olympic legacy in Los Angeles. The government’s renewed investment strengthens the quest for multiple Gold medals and enhances support for a growing range of classes, positioning for additional podium success.

Australian Sailing looks forward to continuing its performance partnership with the Australian Sports Commission and Australian Institute of Sport to support athletes, coaches, and teams in achieving sustained success on the world stage.
