Perfect first day for Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta

Porto Cervo, 27 May 2026. Day one of the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta delivered ideal sailing conditions, highlighted by a steady Mistral wind averaging around 14 knots. The 100-foot Dubois yacht Nostromo led the fleet off the starting line at 12:05 p.m., marking the start of a staggered start system that sent each superyacht off two minutes apart. The fleet showcased spectacular manoeuvres around the islands during the race, which covered a 28-mile course through the La Maddalena Archipelago.

The race commenced with the superyachts sailing through the Passo delle Bisce strait, navigating around the Tre Monti shoal before heading to the Isola dei Monaci. The yachts then turned south, hoisting their gennakers to round Soffi Island before crossing the finish line off Porto Cervo.

In the Blue fleet, the Swan 115 Moat, owned by YCCS member Juan Ball and tactician Cole Parada, clinched victory by a mere 50 seconds on corrected time over the Southern Wind 108 Gelliceaux. Cervo, the 39-metre Vitters, finished third, marking her debut at the regatta.

In the White fleet, Nostromo also emerged victorious, taking first place in the Corinthian Division under the guidance of Danish tactician Jesper Bank, a three-time Olympic medallist. The Southern Wind Liberty Squared and SØRVIND by Giorgio Armani are currently positioned second and third, respectively, in the provisional classification.

The leaderboard for the Southern Wind Trophy, which is exclusive to boats built by the Southern Wind shipyard, sees Gelliceaux leading, followed by Morgana and Liberty Squared.

Additionally, four more superyachts joined the friendly Southern Wind Rendezvous sail, bringing the total entries to 17. They sailed a shorter course specifically designed for them before anchoring for the day and returning to Porto Cervo in the evening.

Forecasts for tomorrow, 28 May, predict moderate Mistral conditions similar to today, with the first starting signal set for 12 noon.
