Abu Dhabi will host the GWA Wingfoil World Cup for the first time, serving as the grand finale of the 2025 FreeFly Slalom season from 28 October to 2 November at Fahid Island. This significant event will attract top athletes from around the globe to compete for the men’s and women’s world championships.
The competition is part of the Fahid Island Watersports Festival, supported by a collaboration between Aldar, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, AD Ports Group, and the GWA Wingfoil World Tour. This festival highlights Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation as a premier destination for sports and adventure tourism.
Leading the competition are two-time defending champions Nia Suardiaz of Spain and Francesco Cappuzzo of Italy, both entering the event as ranking leaders. The men’s competition promises excitement with French athletes Bastian Escofet and Julien Rattotti tied on points and vying for the title, while Italian Alessandro Tomasi poses a formidable challenge after impressive performances in Fuerteventura.
In the women’s division, Suardiaz holds a competitive edge with two consecutive wins, but France’s Kylie Belloeuvre aims to upset her momentum. Additionally, Spain’s Mar de Arce and Austria’s Viola Lippitsch are positioned to take advantage of any missteps by the frontrunners.
The Abu Dhabi event will deliver six days of intense racing, alongside other competitions in the SFT Surf Foil World Tour and GKA Kite World Cups, featuring significant prize money across all disciplines. With live global streaming coverage and a vibrant festival atmosphere, the event promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the wingfoil season.
