Three Hummock Island Yacht Race – A Bold New Chapter in Tasmanian Offshore Racing

The PME & Think Big Printing Three Hummock Island Yacht Race, run by Port Dalrymple Yacht Club, has just been confirmed as an official qualifier race for the 2025 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race – a milestone that marks a major revival of serious offshore racing in Northern Tasmania.

This race is the first Category 2 offshore event to be staged out of Northern Tasmania since the end of the iconic Three Peaks Race and is in its 2nd year. There’s a fresh surge of energy in offshore sailing — and it’s coming straight out of the Bass Strait.

The PME & Think Big Printing Three Hummock Island Yacht Race is taking place on 7th November 2025 and is putting this event firmly on the national radar and opening a new gateway to one of the world’s greatest Bluewater classics.

The 2024 PHS Category winner of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart used this very race as a key part of their preparation for their campaign to Hobart— a testament to its intensity, competitiveness, and credibility.

What sets this race apart is not just its qualification status, but the raw challenge it presents. Bass Strait is infamous for its powerful seas and fast-changing conditions, and this race adds a unique tactical twist — skippers must decide which direction to round Three Hummock Island. Time it right and they can ride the current. Time it wrong and the tide will tear against them, potentially turning a podium position into a punishing setback.

Entries open on 25th May 2025 and anticipation is building quickly. This is more than just another offshore event — it’s a high-stakes, high-reward race through some of Australia’s most rugged waters, and it deserves to be on the radar of every serious sailor.
