First Contenders for 2027 RORC Transatlantic Race

Proven winners and ambitious Corinthian campaigns are already committed to the 13th edition of the RORC Transatlantic Race from Lanzarote to Antigua. The first wave of entries features a mix of speed, offshore pedigree, and ambitious plans.

The race begins from Marina Lanzarote on Sunday, 10 January 2027, covering a 3,000nm course to Antigua, home of the RORC Nelson’s Cup Series and the RORC Caribbean 600. More entries are anticipated, enhancing the race’s appeal.

Two Volvo 70s, designed for high-speed ocean reaching, promise a thrilling contest. With established trade winds and extensive sailing ahead, these boats are set to showcase their capabilities.

Johnny Vincent’s Pace, previously Tschüss 2, has a remarkable RORC record, winning various prestigious races and achieving impressive speeds. The return to the RORC Transatlantic Race signifies a new adventure for her owner. Gweilo 70, meanwhile, has been substantially upgraded from her original configuration, making her a formidable contender with an all-Australian crew, aiming for success in subsequent events.

Adrian Keller’s Allegra, an 84ft catamaran, brings proven performance to the multihull category, while Calamity and Baies du Monde 2 add to the competitive lineup. Calamity, having faced challenges in 2026, is back with renewed vigor.

Sam and Andrew Hall’s Jackknife, an experienced J/125, continues to be a strong contender, showcasing how older designs can still compete effectively in modern races. Karl Smith’s Class40, Racing to End Parkinson’s, embodies a significant purpose, aiming to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s research as part of a broader campaign.

Sam Tregelles’ Mad Dash, an Elan 410, highlights the diversity in the entries, representing a different approach to ocean racing. This mix of cutting-edge technology and traditional designs underlines the unique appeal of the RORC Transatlantic Race.
