DutchSail use crowdfunding to keep America's Cup challenge afloat

The Netherlands has resorted to crowdfunding to keep their America's Cup challenge afloat.

Cup rookies DutchSail, one of three late entries, are showing the strain of their game of catchup.

They are appealing to individuals and corporates to provide €100 per month for the next two years to get them to the start line for Auckland 2021.

Skipper and syndicate CEO Simeon Tienpont says the money won't be touched and will be repaid if they can't get past an April 1 deadline when they must pay part of their US$1m late entry fee.

A change in rulings allows them to pay  US$250,000 by  April 1 and the remaining US$750,000 by October 1.
