State Youth Championships to go ahead

Australian Sailing has announced that several upcoming State Youth Championships and Coaching Clinics are set to proceed as scheduled.

After consultation with local authorities and current COVID-19 guidelines and recommendations, the Northern Territory (July), Queensland (September), Western Australia (September), New South Wales (October) and Tasmania (October) events will be able to go ahead as things stand.

All events will be run in accordance with all local and national health and safety guidelines, with social distancing, contact tracing and good hygiene practices to be implemented.

Those planning to attend will need to consider their personal circumstances and travel arrangements when deciding on whether to attend each event.

Please note that should Public Health Orders regulations or guidelines change, Australian Sailing may be forced to cancel, postpone or amend the format of the events in line with any changes to ensure public safety.

The events currently scheduled to proceed include:

25 – 26 July 2020 – NT Championships @ Darwin Sailing Club
21 – 23 Sept 2020 – QLD Coaching Clinic @ Keppel Bay Sailing Club
24 – 26 Sept 2020 – QLD Youth Championships @ Keppel Bay Sailing Club

10 – 11 October 2020 – TAS Youth Championships @ venue TBC

The Notice of Race for each event will be published on the Australian Sailing Youth website and registrations for all events will open on Wednesday 1 July, except for Tasmania. Tasmania has an expression of interest for club to register with Australian Sailing by the 3 July.  More information will be published in the coming weeks.

We anticipate being in a position to make a decision on the Australian Youth Championships (scheduled for 10-14 January at the South of Perth Yacht Club) by mid-August.

The regattas will provide youth sailors a great opportunity to return to big fleet competition. Racing will run across a number of classes, with each event offering the opportunity to get a taste of regatta experience and to reconnect with friends.

For the latest COVID information for your state or territory please refer to the Australian Sailing COVID-19 resources page. Information will be communicated to competitors regarding COVID-19 as we get closer to the time.
