Whitsunday Escape equips all boats with Shark Shields

Following two shark attacks at Cid Harbour in the Whitsundays, one of which proved fatal, Whitsunday Escape has purchased 40 of Ocean Guardian’s FREEDOM7 shark deterrent devices.

They will be included on all 40 of the boats in the Whitsunday Escape fleet as standard safety equipment to provide protection for snorkellers and swimmers in the water.

Shark Shield technology is the world’s only scientifically proven and independently tested electrical shark deterrent.

“Whitsunday Escape is fully supportive of the Queensland Government’s shark research plans, but research takes time,” says Office Manager Alita DeBrincat. “Whitsunday Escape wanted to be proactive and provide guest protection and peace of mind straight away. We are pleased to be able to offer our customers an extra level of safety with this scientifically proven and effective shark deterrent technology which is used by the US and Australian navies.”

“We are excited about the launch of the new BOAT01 model in early 2019,” Alita added.

Ocean Guardian CEO, Lindsay Lyon says, “The new BOAT01 model will provide a large and powerful protective area for swimming of up to ten metres in depth and over six metres wide through two user-changeable antenna options, depending on the depth of the water.”
