Volunteers wanted for Volvo Ocean Race village in Melbourne

The Volvo Ocean Race is coming to Melbourne over the Christmas/New Year’s period this year and big crowds are expected at Docklands during this time.

Race organisers will create a race village and dockside experience complete with bars, restaurants, entertainment, cool gadgets, try sailing areas and of course, the Volvo 65 yachts. For all of this to happen they need volunteers.

Volunteers, or Port Crew as the race likes to call them, are a vital part of this event. The stopover is a week long and they will be running two shifts per day to run all of the areas and activities smoothly. There is a range of options for volunteers, from helping look after the Port Crew, to Try Sailing, hospitality, media or general public relations to help answer questions and guide visitors. If you can give weekends, mornings, pre-stopover, post-stopover, before or after work or you can even take time off to help out, they would love to have you. All they ask is that you are over 16 years of age and physically able.

Port Crew will be remunerated with a top-of-the-line Musto uniform which will be yours to keep. The more days you volunteer, the more merchandise you get. Two days gets you a t-shirt and a cap, four days will receive two t-shirts, a cap and a jacket, six or more days will get a cap, two t-shirts, a jacket and a fleece. You will also be fed and watered during your shift! Plus you get to be a part of the incredible event and make new friends

If you’re interested in becoming a member of our Port Crew team you can register directly here.
