The 2026 M32 U.S. National Championship showcased thrilling, high-performance racing that the M32 class is renowned for. After a competitive weekend, Ryan McKillen’s team, Surge, regained the championship title, overcoming a two-point deficit on the final day of racing at New York Yacht Club Race Week.
With McKillen sidelined due to a shoulder injury, Mitchell Callahan stepped in as the helmsman, achieving an undefeated record during the event with impressive scores on Championship Sunday. Surge took the lead with a dominant performance, finishing the event with a total of 38 points.
The regatta featured 14 races over three days, where the leaderboard fluctuated significantly. Surge started strong in light air on Friday, winning two races, but Bill Ruh’s Pursuit dominated on Saturday in heavier conditions, seizing the lead with a score of 1-2-3-1-4.
On the final day, Surge thrived under breezy conditions, pulling ahead and solidifying their victory by 12 points over Pursuit, which ended with 50 points. YoungBlood, helmed by Miles Julien, secured third place with 59 points. The overall standings were rounded out by Tuuci in fourth and Rated X in fifth.
During the event, a special meet-and-greet for youth sailors was held, featuring professional sailors from the SailGP circuit, furthering the M32 class’s commitment to fostering interest in sailing among younger generations. The event highlighted the class’s core values of community, competition, and the importance of inspiring the next generation.
The weekend concluded with a celebration at Midtown Race Club, where participants enjoyed an evening of live music and camaraderie, showcasing the vibrant community of the M32 class and its dedication to competitive sailing.
