Platoon Aviation, helmed by Harm Müller-Spreer, dominated the Puerto Calero Lanzarote 52 SUPER SERIES Royal Cup, securing their fourth title in this prestigious event. The team from Germany showcased exceptional sailing skills, finishing first overall with a total of 34 points. They exhibited consistent performance, including multiple top finishes, despite facing challenges throughout the regatta.
The Brazilian team, Crioula, led by Eduardo and Renato Plass, celebrated a dream second place finish. Their journey was marked by a thrilling conclusion, narrowly edging out Ergin Imre’s Provezza, which rounded off the podium in third place. This result is particularly significant for Crioula, showcasing the team’s resilience and strategic sailing, especially in challenging conditions.
The regatta served as a notable comeback for Platoon Aviation, marking their first win since September 2024. The team had previously struggled with speed and technical issues in earlier competitions, making this victory a rewarding achievement. Müller-Spreer expressed his pride in the team’s performance and the improvements made to their vessel, stating, “Winning with a race to spare feels special, especially in memory of the Cup’s donor, King Harald.”
Crioula’s core crew, with over 15 years of experience together, demonstrated their sailing prowess, recovering from poor starts to secure their impressive finish. Their tactician, Samuel Albrecht, played a crucial role in navigating the challenging waters effectively.
Despite a technical breakdown earlier in the regatta, Takashi Okura’s Sled team managed to recover, finishing strong with a second place in one of the races. However, their overall fifth-place finish did not reflect their competitive sailing this season.
In the end, the Royal Cup results highlighted the competitive nature of the 52 SUPER SERIES, with Platoon Aviation leading the season standings ahead of the final regatta in Valencia. The outcomes from this event will undoubtedly impact the strategies and preparations for the upcoming races, as teams seek to improve their standings and performance for the season finale.
