Dual Olympian and London 2012 silver medallist Olivia Price OLY has been elected to join Australian Sailing’s Board of Directors at today’s Annual General Meeting. Price, who made history as Australia’s youngest female Olympic sailing medallist when she won Silver at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the Women’s Match Racing event, brings a wealth of elite sailing and communications experience, leadership, and a passion for athlete development to the organisation’s governance team.
On the water she has been a member of multiple national teams across Olympic cycles, was Australia’s first Women’s America’s Cup Skipper and the 2012 Australian Sailing Female Sailor of the Year Award winner. Beyond her achievements on the water, Price has also contributed to the sport as a mentor and coach, supporting the next generation of sailors through youth, school and women’s development programs. She has experience in sports and digital media and has spent time working with the Australian Olympic Committee and Australian Sports Commission.
The election brings her Olympic sailing career to a close, but she will continue to compete in other classes into the future.
Australian Sailing President Shevaun Bruland welcomed the appointment, stating that Olivia is an outstanding addition to the Board. Her experience as an Olympic athlete, her deep understanding of the sport from grassroots to elite level, and her commitment to growing participation will be invaluable as Australian Sailing continues to drive forward. It is also fantastic to see the progression of accomplished Olympic athletes into important roles in our sport once their Olympic careers have ended.
Price expressed her honour in joining the Board and contributing to the future direction of the sport she loves. She commented, “I’m thrilled to take on this role and to help shape the future of sailing in Australia. Sailing has given me so much throughout my life and I’m passionate about giving back, whether it’s through supporting athletes, growing participation, or ensuring the sport continues to thrive across all levels.”
Australian Sailing CEO Malcolm Page OAM OLY added that Olivia’s insights as both an elite sailor and an emerging leader in the broader sporting community will bring great value to Board discussions. He expressed excitement to work with her as they continue to strengthen the sport in the lead-up to Brisbane 2032.
Sitting President Shevaun Bruland and Director Richard Hudson were elected back to the Board for another term at the same meeting, ensuring stability for the organisation in the delivery of the SAILING 2032 Strategic Plan.
