NOR published for the 2026 Offshore Double Handed World Champs

The Notice of Race has been released for the 2026 Offshore Double Handed World Championship, set to take place in Marseille, France, from 23 September to 2 October 2026. This prominent event is expected to feature up to 22 teams, highlighting the growing international interest in offshore racing.

Hosted by the Cercle Nautique & Touristique du Lacydon (CNTL) of Marseille, in collaboration with the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), Cap Regatta, and the Yacht Club de France, the championship aims to build on the success of the 2025 Championship held in Cowes, UK. The regatta will utilise an equalised fleet of Sun Fast 30 One Design yachts, provided by the hosts to ensure fairness, allowing tactical skill to determine the outcome.

Corinne Migraine, World Sailing Vice President, noted the significance of the championship in the offshore sailing calendar. She expressed excitement about the event’s blend of teamwork and strategy, set against the backdrop of the picturesque bay of Marseille, making it a must-watch for sailing fans.

Race Director Christophe Gaumont, who previously served in Lorient for the 2024 edition, shared his enthusiasm to lead the event, emphasising the unique cultural mix and competitive spirit it fosters. He anticipates that this championship will crown the best teams competing in the Mediterranean waters.

The event also aims to promote diversity and gender equity through mixed crews, aligning with World Sailing’s initiative, “Navigating Offshore, World Sailing’s Plan to Support Offshore Sailing.” The competition structure includes qualification races, a repechage round, and a final race, ensuring an intense and inclusive experience.

World Sailing Member National Authorities (MNAs) are invited to request invitations for their top-tier athletes, with each MNA allocated up to two invitations to promote global representation in this prestigious event. Interested sailors are encouraged to contact their respective national governing bodies to register.
