After four days of unpredictable weather at the Melges 24 World Championship 2025 in Trieste, Italy, the competition concluded with strong Bora winds allowing for the completion of four races on the final day. This brought the total number of races to seven, allowing for one discard in the final standings.
The overall champion, Nefeli, helmed by Peter Karrie, secured victory through consistent performance and strategic brilliance, particularly in the final race. The crew, including Alessandro Franci, Niccolò Bianchi, Saverio Cigliano, and Karlo Hmeljak, supported by coach Simon Sivitz Kosuta, displayed exceptional sailing skills throughout the competition.
Nefeli finished ahead of the Dark Energy team, led by Laura Grondin, who secured second place by just three points. The team faced challenges earlier in the series, including a collision with another boat, but rallied to achieve a commendable finish. Third place was claimed by Strambapapà, helmed by Michele Paoletti, who narrowly missed out on a higher position.
In the Corinthian division, the Zhik Race Team, owned by Miles Quinton and crewed by Geoff Carveth, Oliver Wells, Giacomo Conti, and Sara Zuppin, emerged victorious, finishing tenth overall. They managed to secure their title by a small margin, showcasing their skills against a competitive field.
The championship not only highlighted the prowess of the competitors but also the dedication of the organisers, including the Yacht Club Adriaco and the International Melges 24 Class Association, which facilitated this remarkable event in Trieste.
The event also served as the final leg of the 2025 Melges 24 European Sailing Series, with the series title going to Ante Cesic’s Razjaren, further establishing their dominance in the class.
Looking forward, the next Melges 24 World Championship is set to take place at the Little Traverse Yacht Club in Michigan, USA, from September 19-26, 2026.
